TEHRAN (IQNA) – God’s prophets have sought to help mankind get free from absolute ignorance and open his truth-seeing eyes. All people have eyes but there are a few people, namely men of God, who have eyes that can see the truth.

Knowledge is light

This is according to prominent Islamic philosophy scholar Gholam Reza A’vani, speaking about divine prophets’ main mission. Following are experts from his speech:

Religions in their true divine origin, brought by prophets like Moses (AS), Jesus (AS), Mohammad (PBUH) and others, seek to lead mankind out of absolute ignorance.

They want to open the eyes that can see the truth, the eyes that are rarely found and only men of God have them.

Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi (1165–1240) likens the life of Nafs (self, soul) to knowledge, meaning that mankind gets alive with divine knowledge.

This has also been mentioned in the Holy Quran. Verse 122 of Surah Al-An’am says: “Can the dead to whom We have given life and light so that they may walk among the people, be considered equal to those who can never come out of darkness? The deeds of the unbelievers are made to seem attractive to them.”

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said knowledge is a light that God sends to the hearts of those He wants. He also said the faithful see everything with the divine light. Mawlawi (Rumi) also has a poem that refers to this Hadith.

When there is light, one can see the right path from one that leads him astray. With light, one achieves Furqan (the ability to distinguish between the truth and falsehood).

Some remain in darkness in such a way that they cannot get out of it and are not guided with the light of faith.
