TEHRAN (IQNA) – Youth is a period in life that is very significant in defining and shaping one’s character. There are some characteristic in youth that the Holy Quran praises.

Youth

“It is He who created you from dust, then from a (sperm) drop, and then a (blood) clot. He then brings you forth as an infant, then you reach your strength, after which you come of age though some of you die before it and that you reach an appointed term, in order that you understand.” (Surah Ghafir, Verse 67)

The Quran mentions the youth of some of the prophets and sometimes talks about young people. By paying attention to their descriptions one can find out what a Quranic youth is like.

A Quranic youth should be courageous like Ibrahim (AS) who courageously stood up against idolatry. “Some of them said, ‘We heard a youth called Abraham speaking against the idols.’”(Surah Al-Anbiya, Verse 60)

The youth are thoughtful and therefore good to consult. That is why Prophet Ibrahim (AS) consulted his young son: “When his son was old enough to work with him, he said, ‘My son, I have had a dream that I must sacrifice you. What do you think of this?’ He replied, ‘Father, fulfill whatever you are commanded to do and you will find me patient, by the will of God.’” (Surah As-Saffat, Verse 102)

Youth is also a period of activity, efforts and vitality. The Holy Quran describes Moses (AS) as an active, energetic and striving young man who is a role model for youths. He had no money and wealth but worked hard for Prophet Shuaib (AS) and after marriage and starting family life, returned to his hometown a wealthy man.
