TEHRAN (IQNA) – There are numerous divine signs and miracles around us but taking notice of them requires extra care. Among these signs are plants that bring many benefits to humans and other creatures.

The Holy Quran names many blessings that have been granted to humans. Plants are a section of these mercies with each plant having unique features. The fact that they grow out of the soil is in itself a sort of miracle. “He sends down water from the sky, and with it We bring forth the plant of every thing.” (Surah Al An’am, verse 99)

The Quran refers to seeds that turn into a garden and those that bring about products that we can harvest: “We sent down blessed water from the sky with which We caused gardens and the grains of harvest to grow.” (Surah Qaf, verse 9)

It also points to gardens that have special features: “It is He who has created all kinds of gardens, those raised on trellises and those without,” (Surah Al An’am, verse 141) or “It is God who sends down water from the sky for you to drink and produces plants as pasture for your cattle.” (Surah An-Nahl, verse 10)

Some plants have been referred to as food and drinks for the righteous in Paradise. “And they shall be given to drink from a cup whose mixture is ginger.” (Surah Al-Insan, verse 17)

Olive has also been named as a divine sign to a point that God Almighty swears to it: “By the fig, by the olive,” (Surah At-Tin, verse 1)

According to the Quran, the lot is one of the Paradise trees: “They will live amid the thornless lot trees.” (Surah Al-Waqi'a, verse 28)

There are also references to wheat, garlic, lentils, pumpkin, and onion as God-given blessings.

Meanwhile, the Holy Quran refers to a tree that is intolerable. This tree grows from hell and its fruits are the food of sinners. “Which We have made as a torment for the unjust? (Zaqqum) is a tree which grows from the deepest part of hell, and its fruits are like the heads of devils. The dwellers of hell will eat that fruit and fill-up their bellies.” (Surah As-Saffat, verses 63-66)
