ICRO Official Highlights Importance Religions Attach to Protecting Environment

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization’s (ICRO) Center for Dialogue among Faiths and Cultures said religions attach special significance to protecting the environment.

Ali Akbar Ziaei made the remark in a preparatory meeting of the conference on role of divine faiths in exiting the world environmental crises.

The meeting was held at ICRO in Tehran on Sunday with the participation of representatives of different faiths in Iran as well as officials and scholars of the University of Religions and Denominations.

Ziaei said the meeting has been organized to discuss the role that religions can play in tackling environmental problems in the world.

He added that if faiths develop cooperation and solidarity, humanity can best safeguard the environment because religious pay special attention to protection of the environment.

He referred to making efforts to maintain the teachings of divine faiths as the way out of the environmental crises.

Mohammad Hassan Emami, secretary of Iran’s Green Society, was another speaker at the meeting. He said religion has the capacity to resolve humanity’s fundamental issues.

“When we say we should approach the environment with religion, we are actually seeking to approach the issue methodically and systematically,” he added.

In his address, Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Hossein Mozaffari, head of the University of Religions and Denominations’ center for peace and dialogue, said the role of divine religions in solving global crises like the one related to the environment is a very important and vital one.

He also noted that the Holy Quran in its teachings has underlined protecting the environment and nature as well as maintaining natural balance.

Meanwhile, Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Mehdi Taskhiri, ICRO’s communications and international affairs deputy, said the upcoming conference is aimed at finding solutions for environmental crises and the important role of divine faiths in this regard.

He said there are many teachings in divine religions about protecting the environment and using them can resolve today’s problems in this regard.
