This was said by most of the speakers at the Quran Conference in Delhi recently. The speakers said that the current issues being faced by Muslims are because they are not following the teachings of the Quran and that Muslims are living lives without following the path laid by the Prophet of Islam (PBUH).

We should read Quran like a book and make notes on it, people read Quran, but there is no change in their character, Dr. Tariq Nadvi said, adding that we do read Quran, but do not understand its meaning. This is the reason they remain ignorant of the real spirit of Islam.

He asked people to read Quran and understand its meaning. Small children are made to cram the Quran in their childhood without understanding its meaning and message.

Dr. Adil Ahmed said that it is very easy to understand and read Quran, but we have made it sound difficult. Speaking on the language and delivery of the Quran, he said “we should first read the translation of the Quran.”

On the other hand, Dr. Sameena Kausar, Assistant Professor, Department of Arabic, Maulana Azad Urdu University, said that the Quran is meant for humanity. It has codified the rights of women. However, all this is lost because we only read Quran and don’t pay attention to its message.

“Women have been given equal status in the Quran. But society has ignored it. We should follow the Quran, it has solutions to all the problems of the world,” she said.

The coordinator of the program Dr. Aslam Parvez said that children should not be asked to cram the Quranic texts at home.

“When anyone opens the Quran, he comes to know the truth of life. If you do justice to the Quran, then there will be a change in the society and peace and prosperity in the country.”

Parvez said that since 2011, the message of the Quran on peace, love, and brotherhood as a way of life, is being conveyed to the people. If the message of the Quran is spread among different religions, peace will spread in the country and brotherhood will become a reality.
