TEHRAN (IQNA) – Some 15,000 copies of the Holy Quran have been sent to the earthquake zone in Turkey  in the aftermath of the Feb. 6-dated major earthquakes.

A top executive of the Turkey Diyanet Foundation (TDV), associated with the Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), said that the foundation has sent the copies and the number will increase in the coming days.

“There was a huge demand for Quran from the earthquake region. People said, ‘I want to cite from Quran to my deceased in the cemetery or tent.’ We immediately sent 15,000 Qurans to the region. And new copies are now being printed,” the foundation’s Board of Trustees second President İhsan Açık said.

Açık said that apart from Quran, children's books focusing on religion will be also dispatched to the earthquake region. “A part of our children’s books have reached the region. We are in an effort that every child (in the quake region) has a children’s book in hand,” he said.

Açık also said that they have been sending religious officials to the region to do the service of “spiritual guidance.” “Our spiritual guides have started to go to the region. Our citizens have many questions in a spiritual sense. Many are in need of people to listen to their problems. Our Diyanet has been trying to help the earthquake victims since the first day of the quakes,” he said.

Turkey’s southeastern region was hit by two major quakes, one at a magnitude of 7.7 and the other 7.6, on Feb. 6. Several people have been since living in tents set up in the cities.
