OTTAWA (IQNA) – Programs have been planned to honor Muslim women and youth as Canada will mark the Islamic Heritage Month.

October marks the Islamic Heritage Month in Canada, a time to celebrate and educate about the rich Muslim heritage and contributions to society.

The event, which was first proclaimed in 2007 by the late MP Mauril Belanger, aims to bring communities together to share and learn from one another through various activities and programs.

The theme for this year's Islamic Heritage Month is "Celebrating Muslim Women in the Arts & Sciences". It honors the historical and contemporary achievements of Muslim women in various fields of knowledge and creativity, and their influence on the progress of humanity.

The event also seeks to inspire and empower Muslim youth and challenge the negative stereotypes of gendered Islamophobia.

"Islamic History Month Canada believes that through education and sharing positive stories, all Canadians can grow and connect in the best way possible," a statement on the event's website said.

Since its inception, Islamic Heritage Month has been proclaimed in several provinces and municipalities across Canada, and has attracted many community members and organizations to host countless events every year.

The Board members of Islamic History Month Canada are currently from Saskatoon, Regina, London, Ottawa, and Winnipeg.
