‘Wa Rattil’ Contest Seeks Identifying Talented Qaris

IQNA – “Wa Rattil” (…and recite the Quran in a distinct tone- Verse 4 of Surah Al-Muzzammil), is the name of an international Quran competition organized by Al-Thaqalayn satellite TV.

It has been aired on the TV channel every day since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

Featuring Tarteel recitation of the Quran, the contest is aimed at identifying Quranic talents and beautiful voices in the field from all over the Muslim world.

It also seeks to promote the teaching of the principles of Tarteel recitation.

The competition is held in three stages, with the preliminary stage having finished before the start of Ramadan.

In the semifinals, which is now underway, each qari recites verses from the Quran in Tarteel style and four internationally known Quran experts in the fields of Sawt, Lahn, Tajweed, and Waqf and Ibtida evaluate the performance and informing the qari of his weaknesses and strengths.

According to the TV channel’s public relations office, Quran experts from different Muslim countries.

Five top contenders will make it to the final round to compete for the top prize.

Tarteel is the Arabic word for hymnody. The term is commonly translated in reference to the recitation of the Quran “in proper order” and “with no haste”. It is the measured recitation of the Quran in rhythmic tones according to the rules that explain how to recite the Quran.

Al-Thaqalayn is a satellite TV station broadcasting various programs with religious and cultural themes.

The Arabic-language TV, which was launched in Ramadan of 2008, aims to promote the Islamic culture and the teachings of the Holy Quran and Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).

It also seeks to strengthen the institution of the Islamic family through special programs for women, children and young adults.
