That is why the opportunity of Muharram mourning rituals should be used to strengthen national unity after the country foiled the Israeli regime’s aggression, Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Mahmoud Sadeqi, a faculty member of the Research Institute of Imam Khomeini (AS) and Islamic Revolution added.

He made the remarks in an interview with IQNA about enhancing nation solidarity and social cohesion during the mourning ceremonies commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions in the 680 AD Battle of Karbala.

“The month of Muharram and the mourning of Imam Hussein (AS) and the mourning of other Imams (AS) are always the axis of solidarity and unity. Muharram and Imam Hussein (AS) themselves are a factor of solidarity, because usually during these days people gather around a single axis and flag and mourn for a single person.”

He added that people with different tastes of every type and orientation, from every nation and tribe, with every cultural, political, racial, and even religious and ritual difference, gather in the mourning tent of Imam Hussein (AS) during the month of Muharram to mourn and engage in activities related to the mourning rituals.

“Every year, when Muharram arrives, even our Christian, Zoroastrian, and Jewish compatriots join other Iranians in mourning for Imam Hussein (AS) and the rest of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS). A unique example that occurs in the neighboring country of Iraq is the Arbaeen march.

“There we see people with different tastes, thoughts, opinions and views present and all of them pursue the same goal which is to mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and keep alive the blessed name of Imam Hussein (AS) and other Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS). In general, it can be said that Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) are the factor of unity and solidarity.”

Hojat-ol-Islam Sadeqi added that Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) in general and Imam Hussain (AS) in particular are the heralds of monotheism, and the characteristic of monotheism is unity, solidarity, and unification.

He went on to say that all people should strive to maintain empathy and solidarity, and since Imam Hussein (AS) is a special mercy of God, people should make Imam Hussein their role model, be kind to each other, and spread this love they have for Imam Hussein (AS) throughout society.
