Abdul Hassan Mohammed, head of the maintenance department said teh tw departments finished preparing and renovating all entrance gates to receive the mourning processions and the faithful participating in the Rakdha Tuwairaj march on the 10th of Muharram (Ashura).
He added that these efforts were carried out with great dedication and under the guidance of Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalai, the representative of Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, as well as the continuous follow-up and support of Hassan Rashid al-Abaeji, secretary-general of the Astan.
He emphasized that all preparations were completed in an unprecedented timeframe, thanks to close coordination between the maintenance and machinery departments, in a manner befitting the service to the pilgrims of the holy shrine.
He explained that the staff of these two departments began their work days ago under precise field supervision, achieving this important milestone in a short period—reflecting the high morale and sense of responsibility among the employees of the Astan.
This initiative comes as part of a series of service measures by the Astan ahead of Ashura. Its goal is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for pilgrims and to facilitate their movement in and around the shrine, especially given the expected arrival of millions of visitors to the holy city of Karbala.

The Rakdha Tuwairaj ritual is annually held in Karbala on the day of Ashura.
In this ritual, pilgrims run through the streets about 2–3 kilometers to the Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine in honor of the run that maternal cousins of Hazrat Abbas (AS) did from the village of Tuwairaj (today known as Al-Hindiya) to Karbala after the Battle of Karbala.
