Ali al-Hamdani, commander of the PMU’s Central Euphrates Operations Headquarters, said in a statement that the Deputy Intelligence Department of the PMU has carried out extensive security and intelligence efforts in the center of the Karbala Governorate for Arbaeen.
He added that these efforts include the deployment of more than 4,000 PMU forces in Karbala, Al-Furat News reported.
They will monitor the movement of pilgrims and follow up on the activities of Moukebs (service stations) 24 hours a day, al-Hamdani noted.
They are also monitoring water resources and taking preventive measures to maintain the security of pilgrims, he went on to say.
The PMU is an Iraqi government-sponsored umbrella organization composed of around 40 factions of volunteer counter-terrorism forces, including Shia Muslim groups like Asa’ib, besides Sunni Muslims, Christians and Kurds.
