Iran's Islamic Revolution in 1979 emanated from the permanent lessons of Ashura event, which has inspired all justice-seekers throughout centuries.

Hojat-ol-Islam Abdollah Abdollahi, chief Justice of Clerics' Court in holy city of Qom, speaking at the gathering of Zanjan province's religious associations, saying this added, " everyone in our society is fully aware of the fact that Imam Khomeini ,the late founder of the Islamic republic of Iran, lead Iranian nation toward victory by hoisting the red flag of Imam Hussein(AS).

Abdollahi went on to say, "Zionist leaders and capitalists spend hundreds of millions of dollars to know the secret of Shiites consecutive victories in the world, but the answer is simple and that is the permanently hoisted red flag of Imam Hussein (AS). while Shiites unite behind the red flag of Imam Hussein (AS) and Imam Zaman(May God Hasten His Blessed Advent), nothing can defeat Shiites and they will remain invincible."

"By spending millions of dollars on malicious propaganda against Shiites, enemies of Iranian nation are trying to undermine our people's commitment to permanent lessons and values of Ashura, implying that Ashura belongs to history and it shouldn't be applied in today world's equations."

"Iran's Islamic revolution, which brought dignity and pride to Iranian nation, is definitely indebted to Ashura culture," chief Justice of Clerics' Court concluded.

Aashura is well-known because of mourning for the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) the grandson of the holy prophet of Islam(PBUH), along with 72 members of his family and close friends at the Battle of Karbala in the year 61 AH (AD 680). Yazid I was in power then and wanted the Bay'ah (allegiance) of Imam Hussein. Yazid was openly going against the teachings of Islam in public and changing the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad.

It is reputed that Mahatma Gandhi said: "I learned from Hussein, how to be wronged and yet emerge a winner.”
