New Russian Translation of Quran to Go Online
Efim Rezvan who is translating the Holy Quran into Russian said his rendering will be published in print and will be made available online, too.
He said his work is a word-for-word translation of the verses of the Holy Book, ruvr.ru website reported.
He has so far translated half of the Quran from a copy that contains around 2500 pages.
Rezvan, who serves as deputy of the Anthropology Museum in Saint Petersburg, added he is going to publish the work online so that all those interested can have access to it.
He sees no sources (interpretations, etc) needed in translating the Holy Book as he believes the Quran is a book that explains about itself.
The Russian scholar is expected to finish the rendering in three years time. He is no hurry to finish it because he wants to present a precise and accurate translation.

There were some 10 translations of the Quran published in Russia in the 20th century, the most acknowledged one being a rendering by Russian Orientalist and Iranologist Ignatiy Yulianovich Krachkovsky.
