The topic of Mahdism in Islam is far beyond an ideological principle and its promotion depends to a large extent on the dynamic quality of the Muslim society.
This is according to Hojat-ol-Islam Mojtaba Kalbasi, head of Mahdism Specialized Center in Qom Seminary, who, speaking to IQNA, elaborated on the fundamental principles of Mahdism Doctrine based on the Holy Quran’s verses concerning the truth of all Divine religions, the status of God’s prophets and the sacred books revealed to them.
“The Holy Quran confirms all the books sent to the preceding prophets. ‘He has sent down to you the book in all truth, confirming what preceded it’ (Quran: 3/3),” he went on to say, adding that true believers are those who have unshakable faith in God, His angels as well as all His messengers and their books.
“This signifies the fact that the teachings of all the Divine prophets are one and the same in their basic principles though depending on the requirements of the time, they may have been ordered by God to propagate a set of different rules among the people of their time.”
Hojat-ol-Islam Kalbasi went on to say that belief in the Savior is a common principle shared by all religions. “For instance, as stated in the Holy Quran, ‘We have written in the Psalms, after the remembrance: the righteous among my worshipers shall inherit the earth’ (21/105).
“Religious sects have undergone lots of profound changes and distortions over the course of time; however, due to their Divine origins, they all believe that the end of the world is coming with the resulting triumph of good over evil, as prophesized in the Holy Quran and other sacred books.”
“Nowhere else has the belief in the Promised Savior been discussed so clearly and perfectly as in Shiism. Shias believe that the Savior is the last of the Infallible Imams (AS) who is alive and, though in Occultation, is currently governing the entire world.”
Hojat-ol-Islam Kalbasi further stressed that “far from an ideological subject, the belief in Mahdism is closely associated with the future of Islam and the whole world.
“No future will be awaiting Islam and Muslims unless they make well-organized plans for the coming time and keep their community dynamic enough to promote the culture of Mahdism,” he went on to say.
