National Assembly Standing Committee on Religious Affairs has expressed annoyance over not giving tax exemption on import of paper for publishing Holy Quran.
The meeting of the committee was held at parliament house under the chairmanship of its convener Maulana Muhammad Qasim on Tuesday.
The committee member said that if FBR could not offer relaxation for noble purpose then all tax immunities should be taken back. The bill could not be passed due to obdurate behavior of FBR on the matter during last four years.
The official of FBR took stance that the importers of papers for other purposes may also take benefit if the duty is withdrawn on paper. The mover of the bill Yasmin Rehman said that FBR is impeding the important bill just to hide its incapability.
The committee also formed subcommittee under the convenership of MNA Sajid Ahmed to resolve the matter amicability and ensure the publication of error free Holy Quran, which would meet on 10th January. The committee decided to table the bill in next session of National Assembly, which would be started from 14 January.
