Sunni figures and scholars should take a decisive stance against the massacre of Shia Muslims in Pakistan, a Lebanese seminary scholar told IQNA.
Sayyed Jafar Fadlallah added that they should condemn such inhuman acts committed by biased and intransigent Wahabist and Salafist currents.
In one of the latest attacks against Shia Muslims that took place last Thursday in the city of Quetta, capital city of Pakistan’s Baluchistan province, 102 people were killed and over 250 were injured.
In an interview with IQNA, Sayyed Jafar Fadlallah, a son of the late Lebanese source of emulation Sheikh Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah discussed the anti-Shia acts committed by Wahabi and Salafi groups in Pakistan.
IQNA: What do the Takfiri groups in Pakistan pursue by committing acts of terrorism against Shia Muslims?
Fadlallah: By committing such barbaric acts, which run counter to Islam’s teachings and the Nabawi Sunnah, the Takfiri and Wahabi groups seek to provoke division and discord among Islamic schools of thought and create chaos in the Muslim world.
IQNA: The Pakistani government and security forces are accused of negligence in the face of such attacks. What do you think?
Fadlallah: We call on the armed forces of Pakistan or any other Islamic country in which such crimes occur, to attach importance to their responsibilities about their nations and refuse to allow the enemies of Islam to target Muslims’ unity and solidarity.
The government of Pakistan ought to pave the way for dialogue among different groups. It should not remain indifferent towards the massacre of Shi’ites in the country but should act decisively and provide peace and security for all members of the society.
The Pakistani government should also prevent foreign or internal groups from spreading sedition among the people of the country.
IQNA: What are the responsibilities of Muslims in the face of such Takfiri incidents?
Fadlallah: Muslims should stand up against Takfir (considering a fellow Muslim an infidel) that is instigated by radical groups. They should work for Islamic unity as safeguarding unity is the first step in defending the Muslim world against foreign interference, tensions and divisions.
Muslims should realize that the world arrogance has targeted the entire Muslim Ummah in order to pillage their recourses and wealth. So Muslims, no matter affiliated to which school of thought, ought to resort to the teachings of Islam and the Quran and fight against the world arrogance.
IQNA: How should Sunni scholars react to such massacres?
Fadlallah: Muslim scholars, whether Shia or Sunni, should not only condemn such crimes but also create an atmosphere of dialogue among Muslims so that they can know one another better. Existence of ideological, intellectual and religious difference is normal and each group should make efforts to familiarize other groups with its line of thought.
IQNA: How do you see the Arab and Muslim world’s media in revealing the crimes of the Takfiri groups?
Fadlallah: Unfortunately, most of the media in today’s world are at the service of the plots of the hegemonic powers. I urge all the radio, TV, satellite and internet media that seek to raise awareness in the Muslim world to inform Muslims about the true teachings of Islam and clarify Islam’s brilliant history for them so that they make greater efforts against the conspiracies of the world arrogance.
I emphasize that resorting to the Holy Quran and acting upon its teachings are of paramount importance when it comes to fighting the world arrogance.
