Head of the Islamic Studies Center of the Majlis referred to Itidal (moderation) as the most fundamental characteristic of the Islamic culture and civilization.
Speaking at a forum in Qom on Sunday, Hojat-ol-Islam Ahmad Mobaleghi regretted that this significant characteristic has been sidelined in parts of the Islamic Ummah.
Describing moderation as getting away from extremism, he stressed that in both internal and external affairs, the Muslim Ummah should take the path of moderation.
The cleric added that in internal affairs, moderation means taking a moderate path in which devotion to one’s school of thought is respected and Islamic, ethical and human relations are maintained among members of the Ummah.
As for the foreign affairs, Hojat-ol-Islam Ahmad Mobaleghi said while the Islamic Ummah should fully maintain its intellectual and identity independence, it should present a human, reasonable, cultural, non-violent and interactional image of itself.
He said teaching moderation is the number one educational priority in the Muslim world. “It is upon the elites and scholars of the Islamic Ummah to guide the younger generation to the ‘moderate thought’ and ‘moderate conduct’,” he added.
Chancellor of the University of Islamci Sects underlined that moderation is a criteria for determining true religious thought, adding that those groups that have radical views and abandoned moderation have certainly gone astray from the path of religion.
