Religious minorities enjoy security and respect in Iran because of the high status the school of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) considers for the messengers of God.
Head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) made the remark on Tuesday while addressing a forum on “Grounds for Islamic-Christian Dialogue and Cooperation for Elevating Peaceful Coexistence and Removing Violence”.
Dr Mohammad Baqer Khorramshad said the security enjoyed by the Jews in Iran for practicing their religion without any need to security measures is unique in the Middle East.
He further underscored the importance of interfaith dialogues and said according to wisdom and religious commands such dialogues are necessary and even more so in the current era in which religious and non-religious radicalism has turned to a great problem for today’s men.
Khorramshad referred to Islam as the only religion that has recognized all Abrahamic faiths, saying that the Holy Quran mentions the prophets (AS) with respect and Muslims also respect all the messengers of God. “This is more obvious among the followers of the School of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).”
He said the peaceful coexistence seen between religious minorities and Muslims in Iran is the result of this respectful attitude of Shia Muslims toward messengers of God.
The ICRO chief noted that while religious minorities make up less than one percent of the population in Iran, they have representatives in the Majlis (parliament).
The forum was held in Tehran by the ICRO with the participation of a delegation from the Church of Norway.
