The second National Quran Festival in Mauritania began in the capital city of Nouakchott on Saturday, March 16.
It has been organized by the country’s Islamic Affairs Ministry in cooperation with the Mauritania-Turkey Friendship Association.
The religious event is aimed at enhancing cultural relations between Mauritania and Turkey and serves as a venue for the two countries to share their experiences in Quranic education.
Turkish Ambassador Musa Kulakli Kaya in a speech at the opening ceremony praised the nation and government of Mauritania for being very active in the field of Quranic education.
He said the Quran’s verses are the sources of laws for Islamic societies and provide a model for Muslims’ life. “This indicates how important it is to learn the accurate recitation of the Holy Quran.”
Muammar Safar, secretary general of Turkey’s International Islamic Culture Association, also addressed the opening ceremony, describing the festival as a great step in promotion of religious relations between the two countries.
The National Quran Festival of Mauritania, which will include various cultural and religious programs, will run for three days.
