The cultural revolution of Imam Baqer (AS) resulted in clarification of the theory of Imamate and compilation of Fiqh, Quran interpretation and Shia ethics.
This is according to Hojat-ol-Islam Seyyed Ghassem Razaghi-Mousavi, academic board member of the Islamic Culture and Sciences Research Center. In a piece on the auspicious occasion of Imam Baqer (AS) birth anniversary today, he wrote:
Imam Baqer (AS) was born in 57 Hijri in medina and was martyred by Hisham Ibn Abdul-Malek in 114 Hijri. He became Imam in 95 after the martyrdom of Imam Sajjad (AS) and the period of his imamate lasted nearly 20 years.
Friends and enemies have recognized his scientific and moral virtues. Numerous Hadiths have been narrated from Imam Baqer (AS) in various fields such as Islamic teachings, Quran interpretation, history of Islam, and different fields of knowledge.
He trained many great students including Muhammad Ibn Muslim, Abubasir, Barid Ibn Muawiya Ajali, Zarareh Ibn A’yan, and Hamran Ibn A’yan.
Many great figures like Keysan Sajestani, Zuhri, Abuhanifa, Malik, Shafei, and Ziyad Ibn Munzar Nahdi also benefited from the vast knowledge of the Imam (AS).
Before the era of Imam Baqer (AS), Shia knowledge had not been presented in an organized way. Imam Baqer (AS) was the first Shia Imam to systemize religious knowledge.
He rectified the intellectual foundations of the society, founded a great scientific movement, established a great scientific circle and held debates to confront deviated sects and false beliefs.
The teachings of Imam Baqer (AS) and his son Imam Sadeq (AS) form one of the pillars of Shia theology. His teachings were extensive and included all fields such as Haidth, theology, Fiqh, Quran interpretation, etc.
There are also a lot of references in his teachings that apply to human sciences such as psychology, economics, sociology, and others.
The main characteristic of Imam Baer’s (AS) school was that all of his teachings were based on the verses of the Quran.
