TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Friday prayers leader of Nema, a city in southeastern Mauritania, called on the country’s president to intervene in expediting the reopening of Quranic schools that have been closed.
Sheikh Muhammad al-Amin Yusuf criticized the continued closure of Quranic schools in the African country.
He said hundreds of students of these schools have been deprived of Quranic education for months, which is unacceptable.
Sheikh Yusuf called on President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz to prevent those targeting Quranic institutes from achieving their objectives.

In December last year, the Mauritanian government’s move to shut down Quranic institutes and schools drew protests in different parts of the country.
Religious leaders and preachers in the country have warned against disrupting religious and Quranic education, stressing that Quranic schools should be reopened.
The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a country in the Maghreb region of western North Africa.
