
Starting the ceremony will be recitation of verses from the Quran by renowned Iranian Qari Mohammad Javad Panahi.
Panahi, who has won top titles in a number of national and international Quran competitions, has travelled to several countries such as China, Bangladesh, the Netherlands, Bahrain, South Africa, Germany and Pakistan for recitation of the Quran.
Iran’s 33rd international Quran competition, whose motto is "One Book, One Ummah”, will run until Tuesday, May 17.
75 countries from the five continents of the world have sent 130 Quran memorizers and reciters to the contest.
The international Quranic event convenes Quran reciters and memorizers from around the Muslim world every year.
Senior Iranian officials, including Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani will attend the opening ceremony on Wednesday.
President Hassan Rouhani had also been expected to address the ceremony.
