TEHRAN (IQNA) – A translator of the Holy Quran into French died Saturday, January 28, at the age of 90.

Maurice Gloton translated the Quran after converting to Islam and the Al-Buraq Publications published it in 2014.

Maurice was born in Paris in 1926. He embraced Islam in 1950, changing his name to Obaidullah.

He learned the Arabic language during his many trips to Arab countries and did research on Islam, the Quran and Islamic mysticism.

He the devoted his time to translation of the works of theologians and figures of mysticism including Ibn Arabi.

Maurice also wrote a book on a review of the Quran’s words and grammar. The book was published in 2002 after he worked on it for seven years.

In his Quran translation, he tried to remain faithful to the original text and its style.

It took him ten years to translate the Holy Book of Islam into French.

It has been published in 650 pages and contains the original Arabic text.
