The Israeli forces raided the home of Sheikh Najih Bakirat, deputy of the custodian of the Al Aqsa mosque compound, and arrested him, Palinfo news website reported.
He was taken to an interrogation center, the report added.
Palestinian activists in occupied Jerusalem al-Quds warn that the Zionist regime is using prevention of spread of the novel coronavirus as a pretext to close al-Aqsa Mosque and detain Palestinian religious figures in a bid to carry out its Judaization measures.
Located in east Jerusalem al-Quds, al-Aqsa Mosque was occupied by Israel in the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed in a move never recognized by the international community.
The site is the third-holiest in Islam and a focus of Palestinian aspirations for statehood. Muslim access to Al Aqsa and the adjoining Dome of the Rock is controlled by Israeli security forces.
