TEHRAN (IQNA) – The final stage of the 3rd edition of Meshkat International Quran Contest is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, February 23.

The virtual competition features the recitation of a given part of the Holy Book imitating the style of legendary Egyptian qari Abdul Basit Abdul Samad.

Qaris from 50 countries had sent their recitations to the secretariat of the competition.

After assessment by a panel of arbiters, a total of 262 recitations made it to the semifinal stage, and eventually, 50 individuals were selected for the final stage.

Recitations in the final stage will be re-evaluated by a panel of judges comprising experts from Egypt, Syria, and Iran. The process of assessments in the final stage will be broadcast live from Instagram.

The closing ceremony is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, March 2, at the holy shrine of Hazrat Masoumeh (SA) in Qom.

The contest is for men and boys with no age limits and aims to promote the Quranic culture, boosting interaction with Quran activists in other countries and introducing Iran’s Quranic capacities to others.

Participants had to submit a recorded file of their recitation of the first part of Surah Al-Qiyama (75) of the Quran, imitating Abdul Basit’s style.

The winner will receive $1,000 USD, according to the secretariat of the contest. Those standing in the second and third places will be awarded $700 and $500 cash respectively.
