TEHRAN (IQNA) – Imam Ali (AS) Islamic Center in Stockholm has launched an online petition to condemn the recent act of blasphemy in Sweden.

The center has called on people to sign the petition which will next be given to the Swedish parliament.

Describing the campaign, the center regretted that this inhuman act is repeated by a limited number of known individuals, despite the fact that many Muslims, Islamic unions and congregations from all over Sweden and other countries have expressed their disgust for it.

Provoking the feelings of Muslims and insulting their holy book will not benefit any group or society, notes the center, adding that these actions are contrary to the principle of mutual respect for people and their beliefs.

The Holy Quran is the holiest book of Muslims and it contains the most important messages. Disrespect for the holy book of Islam - with almost two billion followers in different parts of the world - is an act that is contrary to humanity and common sense, noted the center.

The petition will ask the European country’s parliament to adopt laws for preventing further insult to religious groups and their sacred books.

Rasmus Paludan, the Danish leader of the far-right Stram Kurs (Hard Line) party, burned a copy of the Holy Quran in southern Linkoping in Sweden last Thursday.

The act of desecration has been vastly condemned by Muslim countries and groups that have also urged the Swedish government to prevent the occurrence of similar events in the future.

The Swedish police did not stop the far-right rally under the pretext of the freedom of speech.
