No Disease Outbreaks, COVID-19 Cases among Umrah Pilgrims: Saudi Health Minister
Fahad Al-Jalajel confirmed in a tweet on his official account that the health status of pilgrims and visitors in Saudi Arabia is “reassuring”.
The Ministry of Health continues to provide quality medical services to pilgrims through hospitals and primary health care centers in Mecca and near the Grand Mosque, he added in the tweet.
Al-Jalajel noted that the plan prepared by Saudi authorities for Umrah 2022 includes preventive measures, epidemiological investigation, and immediate response to any epidemic outbreaks.
The ministry has employed a medical staff of more than 18,000 paramedics to assist pilgrims and visitors.
More than 7,000 pilgrims benefited from the services of the medical centers in the last 20 days, including Haram Emergency Hospital and hospitals in the city of Mecca, added Al-Jalajel.
The medical services performed are 36 emergency surgeries, 291 dialysis treatments, and 20 heart catheterizations.
Saudi Arabia has raised the number of Hajj pilgrims in 2022 to one million after two years of COVID-19 restrictions.
In early March, Saudi Arabia lifted most of its COVID-19 precautionary measures in open and closed areas, as well as restrictions for visiting the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet's Mosque in Medina.
