TEHRAN (IQNA) – A senior Sunni cleric and member of the Supreme Council of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought said the Muslim world’s problems can be resolved by unity.

Mawlawi Ishaq Madani

Speaking to IQNA, Mawlawi Is'haq Madani underlined the need to strengthen unity in the Islamic world. Excerpts from his remarks are as follows:

Recently the Leader of the Islamic Revolution talked about unity between Shia and Sunni Muslims. This is, of course, not the first time as he has time and again mentioned this issue and attaches great importance to Muslim unity. The establishment of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought and other activities in this field are manifestation of this. Imam Khomeini (RA) also laid emphasis on unity.

God says in verse 103 of Surah Al Imran: “And hold fast to the Bond of Allah, together, and do not scatter. Remember the Favor of Allah bestowed upon you when you were enemies, and how He united your hearts, so that by His Favor you became brothers. And how He saved you from the Pit of Fire when you were on the brink of it. And so Allah makes plain to you His verses, in order that you will be guided.”

So given the Quran’s emphasis, we need to invite people to unity and strengthen and enhance it.

While some think achieving unity is difficult, it is possible and not that hard if there is will among Muslims. Great Shia and Sunni figures in the past had unity while having different views on some issues. Such differences in ideas and thoughts are necessary for life and no one can think we can live without having any differences of opinion.  However, despite having difference, people can reach unity based on common views.

Muslim unity is a very important issue and can resolve the problems that the Islamic world is facing.
