TEHRAN (IQNA) – Today we basically divide the world into secular and non-secular (religious) whereas the Quran’s semantic system does not interpret the world like this.

Holy Quran

The concept of secular was formed in the semantic system of Catholic Christianity. In defining their semantic system, priests said the church is the body of Jesus (AS) because Jesus (AS) has ascended to heaven and the church symbolizes his body.

Some of them had full faith in Jesus and formed the community of the faithful and devoted their life to the body of Jesus. That is to say they became priests and nuns.

Ordinary people who believed in Jesus but were not among the faithful and could not devote their life to Jesus and for that reason they were called Laic (a layperson).

They did secular things such as getting married and having children. From this viewpoint, all Muslims are Laic and secular because they get married, work, trade, and have children.

The Catholic church considers abandoning worldly affairs as the only way to reach God. But Islam has a different view.

The Quran has clearly defined the relation between the physical world and the spiritual world. It refers to the concepts of Ghayb (beyond recognition by senses) and Shahada (the world we know through our senses).

Today we basically divide the world into secular and non-secular (religious) whereas the Quran’s semantic system does not interpret the world like this. If we hold the view of Allameh Jafari we can surmount the current problems in this regard.

He defines the formation of religious knowledge which human beings need for happiness and says it is formed from seven realms of knowledge.
