It was attended by women Quran memorizers from different governorates of the Arab country, the website of the Astan reported.

Karrar al-Shamsawi, head of the center’s media affairs department, said the course was held in five days in two morning and afternoon sessions.

He said the participants were from the governorates of Diyala, Kirkuk, Najaf, Karbala, Saladin, Babil and Basra.

They were given lessons on the rules of Tajweed, Sawt (melodious voice) and Lahn (rhythm), and Waqf and Ibtida (pause and restart), as well as teaching methods, he noted.

According to Amal al-Matouri, head of the Astan’s women Quranic activities department, by holding such courses, the Dar-ol-Quran Center seeks to train Quran teachers for helping groups with special needs such as the visually-impaired.

Quranic activities have significantly developed in Iraq since the 2003 overthrow of former dictator Saddam Hussein.

There has been a growing trend of Quranic programs such as competitions, recitation sessions and educational programs held in the Arab country in recent years.
