Saeed Rahmani, a judge in the waqf and ibtida section of the seventh edition, said the event must not be limited to short-term rivalry. “These competitions should provide the ground for lasting communication among Muslim students,” he told IQNA.
The competition, first launched in 2006, is organized by the Iranian Academics’ Quranic Organization under the Academic Center for Education, Culture, and Research (ACECR). It remains the only international Quranic contest dedicated specifically to students.
The preliminary assessment of recitation entries concluded on August 18, with submissions from 36 countries reviewed. The memorization stage, held virtually in late July, featured participants from 47 countries.

Rahmani praised the energy and freshness of student competitors but stressed that the potential of this “dynamic and motivated” space must be harnessed for wider cultural impact.
“We must use the momentum of these competitions to foster Quranic movements not only in universities at home but also in the international arena,” he said.
He noted that many participants are likely to become future cultural and Quranic decision-makers in their own countries. Building enduring networks among them, he argued, could promote the exchange of knowledge and pave the way for cultural diplomacy rooted in the Quran.
Organizers also revealed discussions about establishing a Quranic academy for students, using the academic, research, and spiritual capacities of universities. Rahmani welcomed the idea, calling it a promising step toward institutionalizing a permanent platform for global Quranic engagement among students.

The seventh edition coincides with the 1,500th anniversary of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which Rahmani described as an opportunity for unity.
“At a time when forces of disbelief exploit such occasions for their own agendas, Muslim societies must use these historic and cultural milestones to showcase their values and strengthen solidarity,” he said.
On Tuesday, a competition was held virtually to select Iran's representatives in recitation and memorization categories.
The details of the date and venue of the final round will be announced later.
