Samir Khaled Rajab said the competition is a light that has illuminated the Noor Mosque and the city.

It is a venue in which the people of the Quran are appreciated and honored, said Rajab, who is also a member of the panel of judges.

He cited a Hadith from the Holy Prophet (PBUH) who said, “God has special friends among the people and they are the people of the Quran.”

Rajab prayed that God may grant everyone the blessing of being among the people of the Quran.

The international Quran competition kicked off in Hamburg on Friday and concluded on Sunday.

Quran memorizers from 33 countries took part in the international event, organized by the An-Nour Quran Memorization Institute affiliated to Kuwait Islamic charity society.

They competed in four categories of memorization of five Juzes (parts) of the Quran for those aged sixteen and younger, memorization of ten Juzes for those aged between 16 and 18, memorization of 15 Juzes for those under 25 and memorization of the entire Quran for those under 30 years of age.

Other members of the competition’s panel of arbiters included Ahmed al-Asrawi from Egypt, Hafiz Shaheen from Turkey, Waleed al-Maneese, the vice president of the Islamic University of Minnesota in the US, and Sheikh Hisham al-Azimi from Morocco.

The competition aimed to encourage Muslims to read and memorize the Quran and implement its teachings, organizers said.

Maintaining the religious identity, boosting people’s faith, and promoting Quranic values among the young generation were among its other objectives.
