TEHRAN (IQNA) – Worshipping God, saying prayers and reciting supplications are among behaviors that exists among followers of different faiths. But what does Salah (prayer), which is a kind of expression of humbleness before God, mean and what is its purpose?

Saying prayers

If a friend helps us, lends us his book or notebook, helps us in studying, resolves our problems, etc, we will feel indebted to him, appreciate his goodness and kindness, and try to reciprocate.

Undoubtedly, God has provided us with the highest and best blessings. He has given us life, intellect, thinking, free will and talents. He has sent us guides to lead us to salvation. Our existence and life are in His hands. Whatever we have belongs of God. He is our Creator and we are His servant. He is all-powerful and needs no one whereas we are limited, in need and without power.

If we study and gain knowledge, it is due to His favor and kindness and because He has given the ability and talent to learn.

If we breathe and continue our life, it is because God, the Almighty, has made it possible for us.

What is expected from a “servant full of needs” except worshipping God? What should an “incapable creature” like mankind do except praying and expressing servitude, humbleness and need before the Creator? What is expected from mankind who is benefiting for so many obvious and hidden blessings of God except being grateful to God?

We have wisdom and conscience. We are grateful and thankful. We are servants and in need. If we prostrate and worship God and say prayers, it is to express and demonstrate our servitude to God.

If we refuse to worship God, we get away from the main purpose of creation, because the perfection of our creation is worshipping God: “I have not created mankind and jinn except to worship Me.” (Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 56)

God says in another verse: “Did We not command you to worship Me and tell you that this is the straight path?” (Surah Yasein, Verse 61)

So if we refuse to show servitude to God and refuse to obey Him and His religion, we both are ungrateful and move away from His mercy. It also shows our negligence about the purpose of creation. One who fails to worship God will fall into the traps of Satan, devils, and anti-God powers. But worshiping and servitude to God makes one so dear that he will be freed from slavery to tyrannical powers.
