TEHRAN (IQNA) – Some think that science can replace what messengers of God do, but a careful study of the function of science and what prophets do shows major differences in the two.

How Science’s Task Differs from What Prophets Do

Science cannot do prophets’ job, according to Martyr Morteza Motahhari. It is because:

Science is about using nature while prophets aim to elevate human beings;

Science gives us tools while prophets give us purpose;

Science gives us speed but prophets give us direction;

Science talks about what is while prophets tell us what to do;

Science only design an outside revolution but prophets design a revolution within;

Science develops our information while prophets help us grow;

Understandings and thoughts are conflicting when it comes to sciences but prophets all move in one direction;

Science sometimes gets the realm of illusion, that is to say, one thinks he knows while later he realizes that he did not know. In revelation, however, there is no room for illusion.

In today’s world, science is advancing and its scope is growing day after day but there is no reduction in the number of crimes.

Yes, science and knowledge need to be accompanied with action to become valuable. This is true about religious sciences as well as other sciences. Science alone is not capable of solving any problem. One may be a scholar who has written a book on ethics but without action, his knowledge is not worth much.

So science and knowledge cannot save humans and mankind needs to put his hands in the hands of prophets.
