The expo was held on Sunday, December 18, which marked the United Nations Arabic Language Day, Akhbar24 website reported.

A total of 267 Qurans, most of them dating back to the 10th to 13th Hijri centuries, were put on show at the exhibition.

On this occasion, the library also organized an exhibition of Arabic manuscripts featuring works in different fields, such as the Arabic language and literature and Arabci encyclopedias.

There were also calligraphy works as well as more than 200 books about Arabic calligraphy and the beauties of the Arabic script and related arts.

The UN Arabic Language Day is observed annually on December 18.

The event was established by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2010 seeking “to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity as well as to promote equal use of all six of its official working languages throughout the organization”.

December 18 was chosen as the date for the Arabic language as it is the day in 1973 when the General Assembly approved Arabic as an official UN language.
