A group of those who oppose religion say that faith in God is rooted in ignorance! They believe humans would consider the existence of gods to give an answer to incidents and phenomena that they did not know their reason.
According to this view, people did not know the reasons behind solar and lunar eclipses and hence would suppose the existence of a god that is doing the act.
However, the fact is that the era of such views and statements has ended because:
1) If the root of faith is ignorance about natural phenomena, then those who are more ignorant are more faithful
2) If faith is rooted in ignorance, then divine books should invite people to ignorance. This is while the Holy Quran highlights the importance of seeking knowledge such as verse 9 of Surah Az-Zumar: “Are those who know equal to those who do not know?” or verse 11 of Surah Al-Mujadila: “Allah will raise up in ranks those who believed among you and those who have been given knowledge.”
3) If belief in God is rooted in ignorance, then religious leaders should be the most ignorant. This is while they are wiser than all.
4) If ignorance is the root of faith, then an individual who gains more knowledge should become less faithful. This is while prominent scientists have a deep belief in God.
It is evident that the discovery of the laws of nature and becoming aware of the secrets of the creation lead to the growth of belief in God.
