Importance of Salah As Stressed by Quranic Verses

TEHRAN (IQNA) – God says in verses 4 and 5 of Surah Al-Ma’un “Woe to those who pray, who are heedless of their prayers.” This means even those who say prayers may be admonished by God. Salah has a status that is way higher than its apparent form.  

Saying prayers

 

There are hundreds of verses of the Quran and many statements by great religious figures about Salah that underline its value, benefits, meanings and secrets. Some of them are as follows:

Salah is the main recommendation of prophets of God to their children.

Salah removes negligence and reminds one of God.

Salah was the coolness in eyes of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Salah removes arrogance.

Salah signifies thankfulness to God.

Salah is the pillar of religion, flag of Islam, key to paradise and a means to assess people’ faith.

Salah is people’s relationship with the Creator. It removes sins and turns materialistic humans into spiritual ones.

Salah is an act of worship that should be done in any circumstances. It helps bring believers closer to God.

Salah is a tradition of Abraham (AS) and a Seerah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Salah is what people rely on in times of crises.

Salah is the highest act of worship.

Two Raka’ats of Salah by a pious person is better than a thousand by a uncaring person.

Salah pleases God and undermines Satan.

Salah links a weak being to the great Creator of the world.

Prophet Jesus (AS) said in cradle that God has recommended him to say Salah.

Imam Sadiq (AS) said in his deathbed that anyone who downplays Salah will not receive the intercession of the Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).

When the time of Salah came in the Battle of Siffin, Imam Ali (AS) stopped fighting to say prayers.

Imam Hussein (AS) said prayer while the enemy was shooting arrows.

The Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) Salah lasted so long that his feet began to swell.

When saying prayers, Imam Ali (AS) was so much absorbed in attention to God that he would not think of anything else.

The punishment for those who do not say prayers is hell.

 “Woe to those who pray, who are heedless of their prayers.”

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said anyone who abandons Salah intentionally has exited the borders of Islam and reached Kufr.

If one downplays Salah, the rewards for his good deeds will be destroyed, his prayers will not be answered and he will have a difficult death and punishment in Barzakh and the Resurrection Day.

Imam Khomeini (RA) said that there is not compulsory act of worship in Islam that is more important than Salah. He underlined that devils fear Salah and mosques.
