TEHRAN (IQNA) – Moses (AS), who was among Ulul'azm Anbiya (arch-prophets), used the question-answer method to teach different individuals and groups of people.

Prophet Moses (AS)

The Quran in different verses refers to his use of this method.

The question-answer method is very effective in teaching and especially efficient when it comes to teaching ignorant and obstinate individuals.

In this method, in order to motivate the student or the one being trained, we first make him aware of his ignorance and then give him information.

When something is presented to one’s Fitrat (nature) in this way, he would have no choice but to accept it.

Some of the examples mentioned in the Quran in which Moses (AS) uses this method are the following:

1- Pharaoh wanted to jail Moses (AS) for believing in the One God. Moses (AS) told him: “What if I were to bring you clear proof (of the existence of God)?” (Verse 30 of Surah Ash-Shu’ara)

He asked pharaoh if he would insist on denying the existence of God and the prophetic mission of Moses and jail him even if he shows him proof.

Pharaoh saw the truth but started to level accusations against Moses.

2- “And say to him, ‘Would you like to reform yourself?’” (Verse 18 of Surah An-Nazi’at)

Here Moses (AS) wants to know whether pharaoh intends to abandon unbelief and oppression and start beveling in God.

The point we should learn from this verse is that when inviting and educating people, we should use good and appealing words and motivate them to accept the truth.

Pharaoh, however, would not relent. He rejected Moses’ invitation and continued his rebellion against God.

3- The Quran also talks about how Moses (AS) saved the Bani Isra’il and how they asked him afterward to make gods for them like those of the idol-worshippers. Moses (AS) told them:  “Should I seek any god for you except Allah? He has exalted you above the nations.” (Verse 140 of Surah Al-A’araf)

In fact, in all of these questions that Moses (AS) asked, the intention is awakening the other side and their conscience, after which they are likely to choose the right path that leads to salvation.

Of course, some individuals get involved in sin so much that the sins reduce the effect of Fitrat in their life. That is why pharaoh did not change his ways and ended up in eternal punishment.
