
Last Friday, the UN Human Rights Council, at the conclusion of its special session, adopted a resolution on Iran in what Tehran has slammed as a political, rushed, and ill-considered move. The resolution was proposed by Iceland, Germany, North Macedonia, the Republic of Moldova, and the United Kingdom.
Following is the statement by Pakistani lawyers and legal experts against the resolution:
We, the undersigned being a group of advocates, judges, and members of the legal community of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan having reviewed the text of the statement delivered at the 39th Special Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council concerning the human rights situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran, hereby set forth our legal views.
We state that the aforementioned statement does not reflect the fundamental values of international law, including respect for public order and security of States, judicial independence, State sovereignty, and the rule of law.
We acknowledge that:
The preservation of public order and security of States must always be taken into account in the issuance of international human rights statements;

Sustainable peace and effective protection of human rights are achieved through dialogue, adherence to the rule of law, and respect for national sovereignty;
Unilateral sanctions, military actions, and foreign interference often lead to the aggravation of human suffering and undermine the full realization of human rights;
We recognize the right and responsibility of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to govern within the framework of its Constitution and relevant international legal obligations, free from any external pressure and unlawful foreign interference;
By signing this declaration, we express our support for the content of the statement of opposition delivered by Mr. Muneeb Ahmed, Representative of the Federal Government of Pakistan, against the unjust resolution adopted at the 39th Special Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council concerning the human rights situation in Iran, and we declare our support for the Islamic Republic of Iran, its people, and its lawful leadership, as well as for their efforts to restore calm, maintain public order, and uphold due process of law. We further reaffirm our collective commitment to the rule of law, the preservation of Iran’s national independence, and the peaceful settlement of disputes.
