God says in Verse 159 of Surah Al Imran:
“Only through the Divine Mercy have you (Muhammad) been able to deal with your followers so gently. If you had been stern and hard-hearted, they would all have deserted you a long time ago. Forgive them and ask God to forgive (their sins) and consult with them in certain matters. But, when you reach a decision, trust God. God loves those who trust Him.”
It is about the great character of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) that has been referred to as great in Verse 4 of Surah Al-Qalam: “You have attained a high moral standard.”
In Verse 159 of Surah Al Imran, God reminds the Prophet (PBUH) and all others who achieve good character and kindness that it is a divine blessing for which they should be grateful.
Being grateful for this blessing is in forgiving others, asking for divine forgiveness for them, and consulting with them. When one is consulted with, he feels self-confidence and is encouraged by the kindness.
Consultation is also beneficial because one who does it shares the intellect of others.
God then orders us to abandon doubts when we reached a resolve to do something after consultation because too much doubt will lead to confusion and indecision.
When we come to a final decision, we should have Tawakkul (put our trust in God) and implement that decision because God likes those who have Tawakkul.
In the realm of philosophy, Tawakkul is the faith in the system of goodness and mercy in the world where nothing is lost or mistaken.
A wise person is one who deliberates first and gathers whatever information is necessary and consults with others and after reaching a conclusion, acts with Tawakkul.
