Sheikh Khayruddin Ali al-Hadi

Sheikh Khayruddin Ali al-Hadi, who is a member of the panel of arbiters of the Iran’s 40th International Quran Competition, made the remarks while speaking to IQNA on the sidelines of the contest on Sunday at Tehran’s Summit Hall.

“The competition stands out from many other competitions, as it hosts contestants from different parts of the world,” he said.

The event also demonstrates the development of the Quranic movement in the Islamic Republic, said Hadi who also acts as the Dar-ol-Quran Center affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine.

The prestigious competition, which began on Thursday, has attracted Quran enthusiasts from around the world.

“This competition has many appealing aspects that suit today's special circumstances, especially the pain that our children and brothers are enduring now in Gaza,” he said, referring to the motto of this year which reads “One Book, One Ummah, Book of Resistance.”

More than 110 countries registered for Iran's 40th International Quran Competition, but only 69 finalists from 40 countries made it to the final round after a rigorous screening process.

Contestants compete in the main categories of Quran recitation (for men) and Quran memorization and Tateel recitation (for men and women).

“The spirit of this competition is a true example of the Quranic teachings that we can observe in the attentive reading and recitation of our beloved readers,” Hadi said, adding, “The Quran is an influential book and has shown its power in all the past years and eras and it has clearly been effective in shaping humans as individuals and society as an institution.”

“These competitions have provided many opportunities and we are still hoping to reach the highest level of the ideal, which is the creation of a righteous society by benefiting from such Quranic gatherings,” Hadi added.

God willing, there will be more resolve to succeed and strengthen the ties between Islamic nations,” he said.

The competition will run until Tuesday, February 20, and the winners will be honored at the closing ceremony on Wednesday, February 21.

The annual event, organized by the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, aims to promote the Quranic culture and values among Muslims and showcase the talents of Quran reciters and memorizers.
