The realization of this project could lead to an escalation of ethnic and religious tensions, border crises, and strategic changes in the policies of regional countries, Seyed Hadi Seyed Afghahi told IQNA in an interview.
“Also, if implemented, the national security and political stability of neighboring countries would be severely affected.”
Regarding Israeli regime prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent remarks about “Greater Israel” and its historical roots, he said, “This plan has a long history and is rooted in distorted Torah and Talmudic teachings that are presented under the title of ‘Promised Land’. The Zionist regime has tried to implement this idea throughout history, but experience has shown that Israel’s territorial expansion has failed. Prominent examples include the wars of 1948, 1956, 1967, and 1973, which were mostly unsuccessful for Israel.”
He added after these wars, Arab countries such as Egypt and Jordan gradually withdrew from the resistance front, and treaties such as Camp David caused these countries to distance themselves from direct confrontation with the Zionist regime.
“Then the axis of resistance was formed from the beginning of the victory of the Islamic Revolution of Iran and replaced the Arab countries in confronting Israel’s expansionist projects. Since then, Israel has not only failed to grow larger, but has also become smaller in terms of internal limitations and regional pressures. Of course, it has had strategic, security, and military development, but it has failed to achieve territorial development and the realization of the ‘Greater Israel’ project.”
Regarding the political motivations for the re-emergence of this project in the current circumstances, Seyed Afghahi said, “Netanyahu failed to achieve his goals in Lebanon and the region. Despite military and economic pressures, he failed to disarm Hezbollah, and Lebanon is still on the path of resistance. In addition to Lebanon, in Yemen and other regions, Israel’s plans have failed, facing popular resistance and the axis of resistance.”

He said Israel’s main goal in the past was to realize the idea of a “Greater Middle East”, which is now being pursued under the title ‘From the Nile to the Euphrates” with American support.
“The introduction of this plan has had widespread repercussions and has led to the convergence of countries aligned with Iran. Israel is trying to act more boldly by expanding its influence over the territorial resources, oil and gas, and God-given wealth of the countries of the region. However, public opinion, Islamic countries, and the international community have strongly condemned these actions. Of course, without practical action, mere condemnation will not have any effect on advancing this project.”
He added that the weakness of some Arab countries and their hidden cooperation with Israel has emboldened this regime.
“For example, countries that claim to support Muslims continue to participate in the transfer of oil, gas, and equipment to Israel. The fact is that even after the developments in the Gaza Strip and Israel’s actions there, many countries are paving the way for this project by normalizing relations or maintaining political silence. This shows that confronting ‘Greater Israel’ is only possible through regional power and political and diplomatic convergence.”
He then explained the possible consequences of the ‘Greater Israel’ plan, saying, “The realization of this project could lead to an escalation of ethnic and religious tensions, border crises, and strategic changes in the policies of regional countries. Also, if implemented, the national security and political stability of neighboring countries would be severely affected. Therefore, confronting this plan requires comprehensive political, diplomatic, economic, and in some cases, field measures to strengthen the position of regional countries and reduce Israel’s audacity.”
