Al-Azhar Denounces Car Attack at German Christmas Market

IQNA – Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center condemned a ramming attack that killed two people and wounded dozens in Germany’s Magdeburg,

A car plowed through a Christmas market in the central German city of Magdeburg on Friday evening, December 20, 2024, killing 11 people and injuring tens of others.

 

Attacking civilians and instilling fear in them, regardless of their religion or beliefs, is a heinous crime that reflects a departure from religious teachings and the human and ethical values that emphasize the preservation of human life and the establishment of bridges for coexistence among people, Al-Azhar said in a statement on Saturday, Sawt al-Daat website reported. 

Such incidents show the need for coordination of international efforts to eliminate extremist ideologies, eradicate their sources, and strengthen initiatives based on promoting values of tolerance, peace, and human brotherhood, the statement added.

Al-Azhar also expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery for the injured.
