In a report titled “Open Your Eyes Wide; Egypt Makes Fundamental Changes in School Textbooks to Remove Anti-Semitic Content,” the Israeli website Epoch said the Egyptian government has removed all anti-Zionism elements from school textbooks.

According to the website, “As part of ongoing reforms, Egypt has removed anti-Zionist content from its school curricula and is making efforts to promote tolerance.”

It adds, “It is hard to believe, but Egypt, where anti-Semitism has been a part of its cultural and educational narrative for years, is now making significant efforts to change textbooks as part of a relatively new educational policy.”

The report says that Egypt has revised its school curricula under the supervision of the international organization IMPACT-se, which is “an organization that monitors peace and cultural tolerance in school education”.

This includes a team of researchers, educators, and educational policy experts, among whom are Israeli experts, it says.

The report states that, from the 2023-2024 academic year, a comprehensive reform of the curricula in Egypt has been implemented.

“All manifestations of anti-Semitism have been removed from sixth-grade textbooks. These reforms include reducing content that encourages Jihad and glorifies martyrs, as well as eliminating stereotypes and anti-occupation maps that referred to Israel as Occupied Palestine. Additionally, the approach to addressing the history of Jews in Egypt has been improved by acknowledging their historical presence.”

According to a report by the Institute for Monitoring Peace and Cultural Tolerance in School Education, Egypt began a comprehensive process in 2018 to change school curricula regarding the portrayal of Israeli regime’s occupation of Palestine, which is expected to be completed by 2030.

However, the report from this Zionist media outlet states that this change process is considered slow.
