This is according to Rev. Dr Jean-Claude Basset, professor of interreligious dialogue at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland and the author of "Interreligious Dialogue", who in an interview with IQNA answered the following questions regarding the issues of Judaization, Palestinian and Al-Quds (Jerusalem).
Excerpts Follow:
IQNA: One of the dangers threatening the Palestinians is the process of Judaization of Al-Quds. What's your view on that?
Basset: It is absolutely illegal and I totally oppose it. Even many groups of Jews I visited are against Judaization. But the problem is that even the Arab League remains silent over this issue.
IQNA: Despite the tough situation Palestinians facing with in the Gaza Strip and efforts made to remedy the situation, why has not the condition changed yet?
Basset: One of the main reasons is the policy of the Israel regime, according to which the Palestinians are imprisoned in the over-populated Gaza Strip. Another reason of this unchanging situation is a sort of division among the Palestinians. They are divided into different groups like Hamas, Fatah… and this will cost them their lives and freedom. Although there are some hopes for reconciliation between them.
IQNA: Do you think the United Nation can be influential in resolving this conflict? How?
Basset: The United Nations has issued some resolutions for resolving the Palestinians’ problem, but as we see, they have not been beneficial and practical. The United Nation’s hypocrisy is very strange, because in one hand it is supporting the refugees for many years, but on the other hand they maintain them as refugees, so it doesn’t solve their problem, and when it comes to real politic issues, we see their supports are nothing but just talking; they don’t do anything in practice. I visited their camp in Saida in Lebenon. How can we think of two generations of a country living in camps? In no other places in the world you will see this sorrowful condition you see in their camps in Lebanon, while they speak the same language, they just give the refugees the chance for education and again they go back to their camp!
IQNA: How do you predict the future relationship between Egypt and Israel?
Basset: In my opinion their basic agreement will maintain. The Camp David Treaty will remain, but the way they put it into practice will be changed. I mean the way they support it will be much more restrictive than it used to be. At least the treaty may go on for some time.
IQNA: The West particularly the Zionist accuses Iran of developing nuclear weapon. What are your views on this accusation in the current conditions?
Basset: These accusations are not something new. They did it before, like the way the United States accused Iraq for developing nuclear weapon they never found. So this is just their excuse for invading countries and sacking their resources.
