According to the country’s Seventh Development Plan, the Ministry of Education is required to establish 1,200 official Quran memorization schools within the next five years from the date of approval of the plan, Mikaeil Baqeri, the director general of the ministry’s Quran, Etrat and Prayers, said.
An official Quran memorization school is a government or non-government school that implements its curriculum and goals, and also conducts memorization work, he noted.
In these schools, six sessions per week are added to the curriculum, and these six additional hours are dedicated to memorizing the Quran and are distributed throughout the week, he stated.
“Our priority in the first step is the elementary school level, but it can be extended to the secondary school later.”
Referring to the implementation process of the plan, Baqeri said that in the previous academic year, 15 schools across the country started their work on a trial basis and are currently operating.
The guidelines for launching these schools are being documented and will be announced in about 10 to 15 days, and they will officially begin operating in the new school year, he went on to say.
Regarding the goals of Quranic schools, he said that, first, it is to achieve the goal of training 10 million Quran memorizers in the country according to the instructions of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

“We believe that the Education Ministry has a significant role in training these 10 million memorizers, due to the presence of about 17 million talented students in this field.”
Not training all of these 10 million people is the responsibility of ministry, but all Quranic and cultural institutions and organizations, especially the Quranic institutions of the country, are obliged to help in this regard and train memorizers, he noted.
“However, the Education Ministry, having the largest audience, has a double duty in this regard, and if education succeeds, the country will succeed in this regard.”
