
Moreno met with Budget Management Secretary Amenah Pangandaman of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to discuss the proposal in preparation for the Philippines’ hosting of the ASEAN Summit in 2026.
During the meeting, Moreno highlighted the importance of aligning national and local efforts to promote inclusivity and cultural tourism through such government initiatives.
In response, the DBM chief lauded the Halal Town rehabilitation project, expressing support and excitement for recognizing the Muslim community in the city.
Meanwhile, Pangandaman also confirmed that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government is expected to help fund the restoration of the Golden Mosque.
“Insha’Allah (God willing), we are happy that the UAE government is going to provide us funding para mapaganda yung Golden Mosque Complex,” Pangandaman said.
The Manila Mayor emphasized that the proposal to rehabilitate the representation of the Muslim community in the city will create a great impact on the Philippines’ culture.

“I was very excited to present our small effort in aligning the city’s goals with the national government — especially as we are hosting the ASEAN,” Isko said.
“We’re very happy to have a community where Christians and Muslims live together, grow up together, and do business together, in harmony and in a peaceful manner,” he added.
The Golden Mosque in Quiapo, Manila, was originally built during the administration of the late president Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
