Qom Seminary scholar Hojat-ol-Islam Alireza Panahian said the Islamic society must strengthen the correct understanding of religion and confront distortions, eliminate its weaknesses in areas such as economics and social relations in order to play a more effective role in global developments.
Addressing an educational gathering at the holy shrine of Hazrat Masoumeh (SA), he stated that religion has always been one of the most powerful factors influencing human life.
The trends of the last few decades show that the idea of eliminating religion from the social and political arena is a mistake, he said, adding that many influential currents in today’s world, even those opposing religion, draw strength from religious or quasi-religious ideologies.
The religious scholar called the Islamic Revolution of Iran a prominent example of the power of religion in the modern era and said this religious movement influenced the regional and global space, and today the Islamic resistance is an example of this power.
Referring to Iran’s advances in defense and other fields, Hojat-ol-Islam Panahian said, “Many of our young experts and scientists have entered the field of technology with religious motivations and the spirit of struggle and have achieved important strategic achievements.”

He added that an important criterion for recognizing the true religion is the creation of power in the individual and society. “Any type of religiosity that leads to weakness, passivity, or isolation is a sign of distortion in it.”
Hojat-ol-Islam Panahian also emphasized the social function of mosques and said the mosque must educate strong people and strengthen the atmosphere of communication and cooperation between believers.
“A mosque that is only a place of passage for prayers has lost its real function,” he said.
