IQNA – A host of the Iranian Quranic TV show “Mahfel” said the program can become an ambassador of peace and spirituality in the world.

Seyed Jalal Masoumi, a host of the Iranian Quranic TV show “Mahfel”, speaking to IQNA

Seyed Jalal Masoumi, in an interview with IQNA, referred to the remarkable global reception of the program and talked about the great potential of the fourth season of Mahfel in presenting diverse talents and influencing the lives of its audience.

He also emphasized the need to focus on pure Quranic concepts, the teachings of Ahl-ul‑Bayt (AS), and the prospect of holding Mahfel outside Iran.

Known for showcasing Quranic recitations and promoting Islamic teachings, the Mahfel TV Show is a well-regarded Iranian television series appreciated by audiences worldwide.

It is broadcast on IRIB’s TV 3 channel just before sunset every day during the holy month of Ramadan, offering a spiritual oasis for viewers as they prepare to break their fast.

With a primary focus on the Quran, the program aims to enrich the brief moments of respite for fasting individuals through insightful discussions and captivating recitations.

Asked about an overall evaluation of the fourth season, Masoumi stated, “With divine support, we advanced the fourth season successfully and strongly. In this edition, we witnessed the participation of brilliant and diverse talents from various age groups—from innocent children and gifted teenagers to adults who have served the Quran for years. This diversity is one of the strengths of the fourth season.”

Regarding distinctions between seasons, Masoumi explained that each edition of Mahfel has aimed to be more mature and comprehensive than the previous one.

While maintaining its successful structure, the latest season introduced innovations in both visual and content aspects, he said.

He mentioned that this year’s set design was aesthetically impressive, and the overall quality of the participants’ recitations and memorization was remarkably high—revealing that society, across all walks of life, is rich with Quranic potential that deserves visibility and support.

International outreach and global response

Masoumi noted that Mahfel has evolved beyond a national program and now has an international dimension.

“This has been deeply tangible and astonishing to me. During various trips—to Europe, Africa, and parts of Asia—the first question people asked me was about Mahfel. It shows that the program has transcended geographical boundaries and become a recognized media phenomenon at the international level.”

He shared that when meeting people in countries such as Germany, France, and those in Africa, they speak passionately about Mahfel; young Africans even recite verses in their sweet accents and say they were inspired by watching the show.

“This truly fills my heart with joy,” he said, “because this outcome isn’t the work of a small group alone—it reflects a global thirst for spirituality, for the divine word, and for Quranic and Ahl-ul‑Bayt (AS) values that Mahfel has managed to partially satisfy.”

Mahfel Quranic TV Show Capable of Becoming Ambassador of Peace, Spirituality Worldwide

Masoumi emphasized that Mahfel’s viewers are not only Iranians—rather, all those who love the Quran, hold affection for Ahl-ul‑Bayt (AS), and seek a healthy, spiritual, and inspiring media space are part of its audience.

“This broad and passionate viewer base doubles our responsibility. We must appreciate this social and spiritual asset and create content worthy of these global audiences. This success proves that the message of the Quran and the teachings of Ahl-ul‑Bayt (AS) are universal messages—if properly conveyed, they will resonate and leave a profound impact.”

Asked whether the idea of holding Mahfel outside Iran is merely a concept or there is an operational plan in motion, he said, “This idea will certainly not remain just an idea. We are seriously studying and pursuing it. As I mentioned earlier, the global feedback to the program demonstrates its enormous potential. Holding Mahfel outside Iran could take on several important dimensions:

Showcasing Islamic unity:

By hosting Quran reciters and memorizers from various countries, we can embody the unity of the Islamic Ummah centered around the Quran—a powerful message in today’s world.

Introducing global Quranic figures:

There are many remarkable Quranic talents in other countries who have not yet had the opportunity to be recognized internationally. Mahfel can serve as a platform to introduce these individuals to a wider audience.

Cultural and soft influence:

Presenting the beauty of the Quran and the teachings of Ahl-ul‑Bayt (AS) to non‑Muslim audiences—or those who are unfamiliar with Islam—can be an effective step toward a correct understanding of Islam and a counter to Islamophobia.”

Masoumi noted that holding such events abroad would come with unique challenges. “Logistics, political and cultural coordination, funding, venue selection, and even permit acquisition all require careful planning and international cooperation. Moreover, the program must be designed in a way that preserves Mahfel’s identity and charm while remaining in harmony with the culture and context of the host country.”

Nevertheless, he emphasized that the Mahfel team—driven by the same dedicated spirit they have shown within Iran—is ready to face these challenges.

“We believe the message of the Quran is a universal message,” he said, “and we must redouble our efforts to bring it to every corner of the world. With the support of relevant institutions, we hope to make this dream a reality and turn Mahfel into a true ambassador of Quranic peace and spirituality at the heart of the world.”
