-- The opening ceremony of the first Quran Olympiad of University of Quranic Sciences was held yesterday, April 26, at the building of Culture and Islamic Guidance Office in Meybod, Yazd province.
Beginning with recitation of the Holy Quran, the ceremony was followed by an opening address delivered by Hojat-ol-Islam Zaree, who is in charge of Meybod Faculty of Quranic Sciences.
Secretary of the First Quran Olympiad, Ali Asghar Shojaei, was the next speaker giving a report about the ongoing event. “Given the fact that the scholars and staff of the Faculties of Quranic Sciences have for the first time joined students in this year’s competition, the event has changed its title to Olympiad,” he said, hoping that it will help elevate rivalry among the contestants.
“The Quran Olympiad is divided into two sections. The first includes written exam, in which 1100 contestants competed in 11 categories at the 14 faculties of Quranic Sciences throughout the country on April 18, while the second section, the oral exam, is dedicated to those who have qualified by passing the written exam.”
Director of public relations office of the University of Quranic Sciences, Mehdi Ghobadi, and head of Awqaf and Charity Affairs in Yazd province, Hojat-ol- Islam Hatami, were other personalities addressing the event.
